So here at South Winchester Lodges, we want to make sure you get the most out of your May stay in Winchester and that’s why we have put together a guide to local festivals and markets you really don’t want to miss.
1. Winchester Market

- Alresford’s local leaf at the annual Watercress Festival
New Alresford or the ‘’Capital of Watercress’’ is a small market town in the city of Winchester district which will be once again organising the Watercress Festival, this year in May. This is a very vibrant event where you can choose from different artisanal foods and plenty of stalls of art and craft items. There will be cookery demos by celebrity and local chefs, as well as, music from local bands playing on stage throughout the whole day.
- Sunday 15th May
- The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
This year is exceptional because it marks 70 years of service from The Queen, the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. In the same fashion, Winchester is a city full of history, and what better reason to celebrate this unforgettable celebration here?! There were many royal ceremonies hosted in Winchester Cathedral during the centuries and this makes it a great place to walk in the same halls, as royals did. There will be various events in the attractions across the district to mark the occasion, just follow Visit Winchester on social media. You can buy a Platinum Jubilee souvenir from the Information Centre at Winchester, where you can choose from a wide range. 😊
