Think vineyards, sun, alfresco dining and just a hint of sophistication without the pomp. When we imagine vineyard holidays, our minds often drift to the rolling hills of Tuscany, the sun-drenched landscapes of Provence, or the famous Champagne houses of northern France; few realise that some of England's most celebrated vineyards are right here in Hampshire.

Just a short drive from the front door of your lodge, rows of flourishing vines stretch across the countryside, producing award-winning sparkling and still wines that regularly rival some of the finest names in Europe. Thanks to our chalk-rich soils, which are remarkably similar to those found in Champagne, the area has earned a reputation as one of England's premier wine destinations, and June is perhaps the best time to experience it!

Of course, Hampshire's vineyards offer far more than just what's in the glass. For those who don't drink alcohol or enjoy wine, a visit is every bit as rewarding and special. There are the sweeping countryside views, beautifully maintained grounds and leisurely lunches on sun-drenched terraces. So why not swap the usual outdoor visits for something rather more unique and enjoy the opportunity to spend an afternoon simply enjoying good food and great company against a stunning landscape.

It’s that very same landscape that has made the vineyards come to life.  The chalky downlands have helped winemakers create some exceptional sparkling wines.

You can enjoy a sunny day by taking the Vineyards of Hampshire Tour  as you explore three vineyards alongside your guide, complete with sampling the aforementioned award-winning wines and partaking in a by 2 course lunch to help wash it all down. Of course, if you are not a lover of alcohol, the history, the tour and the food are still perfect ways to spend time during your stay with us.  Not to mention these wineries are surrounded by villages steeped in history with country pubs (if you still have room after a sumptuous lunch), farm shops and walking trails to complete the experience.

Another vineyard well worth discovering is The Grange, where visitors can enjoy guided tours through the vines before being invited behind the scenes to learn how Hampshire's most stunning wines are crafted. The experience offers a glimpse into the journey from grape to bottle, finished with a relaxed tasting overlooking the rolling countryside.

As well as the evergreen tours and vineyards there are also fun events which celebrate wine…and crisps!  For instance, the Crisps & Wine Pairing Workshop at the Local Wine School offers a rather unique take on the perfecting pairing. You can decide whether the humble yet classic choice of Monster Munch or Frazzles pair with a delicious and equally classic tipple.

Et peut-être pour ce certain je na cais qua – The French Cheese & French Wine Pairing Workshop! Embark on a journey of discovery as you deep dive into the delights of wine and cheese combos that you enjoy.  If you have ever put out a few bottles of wine and smorgasbord of cheese at a dinner party but weren’t entirely sure if they were a match made in heaven or one step away from heartburn, now you can discover the science behind it.

We humbly submit that a stay in one of our luxury lodges provides the perfect base to explore our local vineyards and enjoy our countryside in the height if summer.

Tuscany may be famous for its vineyards. Champagne may be known around the world.

But this June, one of England's most exciting wine destinations is waiting right here on our doorstep. Cheers!
